Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts

HBO Max appears to specialize in emotionally charged cast reunions. As they did with the Friends reunion, the streamer is now doing the same for the Harry Potter film series.

The Sorcerer’s Stone special, airing to commemorate the film’s 20th anniversary, brings the actors and Chris Columbus (director) together to discuss the magic of the film series. J.K. Rowling herself will make an appearance.

Of course, seeing Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint together again is a big attraction. As long as they’ve been working, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’ve all matured. However, it’s heartening to witness their real affection and friendship for one another.

Peacemaker

A spin-off series brought by James Gunn of the hit DC movie The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker will be produced to integrate with the DC Extended Universe, following in the footsteps of Disney+. No one should be surprised to learn that the movie had so many compelling misfit villains to select from, but John Cena’s Peacemaker was chosen to expand the DC Universe onto HBO Max.

With Amanda Waller’s agents (Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland, back for another round), the show follows Peacemaker as he exits the hospital where we last saw him.

There will also be more glimpses into the personal lives of these individuals in the Peacemaker series, as we meet his father, a grumpy old man played by Robert Patrick who shows no regard for his son at all.

Doom Patrol

Doom Patrol has indeed been confirmed for a season 4 on HBO Max, and it’s not hard to understand why and how the show is still so popular today.

As depicted in the show, a gang of heroes who are social outcasts finds themselves thrust into circumstances that call for heroic deeds without the normal glitz and glory. A critical but optimistic view of superheroes is what you’ll get from this program.

Raised by Wolves

Science fiction series that examines religion and nature against nurture. Big-idea sci-fi focuses on imagining what might happen in the future and imagining what those concepts might blossom into.

Slow-moving, yes, but that’s what’s required for a show that’s tackling complicated issues. Raised by Wolves is a great sci-fi film for individuals who prefer their fiction to be more intellectual.

Station Eleven

This popular miniseries may seem to be heavily influenced by the ongoing pandemic we’re having today, but in reality, it’s actually based on a book by Emily St. John Mandel that was incredibly predictive in 2014. A devastating disease wipes out society as we know it, killing 99 percent of the world’s population.

A traveling Shakespeare group conducted the works of the Bard for small villages of survivors twenty years after the tragedy. The Traveling Symphony, which features Kirsten (Mackenzie Davis), is dedicated to disseminating theater, music, and culture throughout the world, despite the chaos.

In any case, they’re still trying to make sense of what’s occurred, both to themselves and to the rest of society. It’s all so vividly, agonizingly comparable to right now. Right now. Is art able to make sense of a disaster? Station Eleven makes an effort, and it works out for the best.
