Asiaone Fast and Furious 9

The Fast & The Furious fans in Singapore are in for a treat because you are going to get a preview of the film earlier than the US premier.

The studio United International Pictures has issued a statement that F9 also known as Fast & Furious 9 will hit Singaporean theatres more than a month before its release in the US.

An Advance Screening

The ninth Fast and Furious film will be released in Singapore on May 26, 2021, 31 days before its US release date of June 25, 2021. Earlier previews, on the other hand, begin on May 21, 2021, but we will deliver what it is about in this Asiaone news article.

By the time F9 is released in the US, it will be an old story in Singapore. A similar situation occurred during the premiere of Mortal Kombat and Godzilla Vs. Kong, where both movies were released a week or two earlier than the US.

We can assume that studios are moving their movie premieres into Asian countries to maximize the earnings because the US films are generally performing better in Southeast Asia during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Fast and Furious franchise has done well at the box office, grossing nearly US$6 billion (S$8 billion) worldwide, so the studio naturally hopes that the new installment will do well as well.

A Quick View

Here is United International Pictures’ synopsis of the movie:

Vin Diesel’s character Dom Toretto is leading a peaceful life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger is always around to snatch away the peaceful life that he built for his family.

Although the current adversary comes from his past, he must be forced to confront his demons if he wants to save his family and his friends.

His talented crew will join together again to stop a worldwide threat created by a deadly assassin and driving prodigy, a person who happens to be Dom’s estranged brother, Jakob who is played by John Cena who also stars in the upcoming The Suicide Squad.

What To Expect

Here is what we know so far about what’s going on in this film.

We are still facing the long wait to know the reasons why Han is back, where Hobbs and Shaw are during the film and why it had to take nine years for Dom to disclose his brother to his ‘family’.

The trailer reveals a little, as it turns out that John Cena’s Jakob is Dom’s brother, and then the very end of the trailer confirms that, somehow, Han played by Sung Kang has returned. “Nice clubhouse,” he says as he casually walks back into Dom’s life, and it seems somehow Letty knew that Han was still alive after having seemingly been killed off in Fast & Furious 6’s post-credits scene.

Following the success of their spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham would most likely be absent this time. A surprise appearance may be in the works, but it seems impossible.

The New Baddie

John Cena, who was reported to be playing a “badass” character in the ninth film aka Dom’s previously unknown brother Jakob, will be the biggest newcomer in Fast & Furious 9.

Lin admitted that discovering Dom and Jakob’s relationship was “the reason to come back,” while admitting that the family theme has become a staple. The theme that we’ve been presenting leading up to this point has been the family that you create with people that you encounter, the family that is more than blood.

Cena teased that his character is the “greatest hurdle” that Dom and co have ever faced.

F9 will be released in theaters on May 26th, with Super Sneaks starting on May 21. Let’s hope the Fast and Furious crew will be able to travel to space at that stage. Let’s dream until then.
