Netflix is set to bring back the unusual superheroes of the hit series Umbrella Academy in its Season 3 that is set to premiere in June.
The superhero-fantasy drama was based on the comic book series by Gerard Way. The series launched in 2019 with its first season, then it followed up with its second season in 2020. However, after the release of the second season, no updates were released about the third season.
The streaming television series is well-known for its mixture of superhero fantasy with a little mix of sci-fi, mystery and comedy. It is also praised for its original style and perfect portrayal of characters, which resulted in the massive success of the show.
Third season release date
Recently, show producer Steve Blackman revealed at SXSW 2022 that the release date for the season 3 of the Umbrella Academy is set for June 22. He also announced that aside from the launch date, a brief teaser will also be dropped.
If you haven’t noticed, it is quite unusual that Netflix will release a new title on a Wednesday, considering that the streaming giant typically goes for a Friday release. However, the release date could also suggest that this is to give way to the release date of the second part of the Stranger Things Season 4.
What this means is that Netflix wants to avoid its two best franchises fighting for the attention of the audience. Which is good as long as there is a nine-day gap between the two series.
What is the plot all about?
According to the latest Singapore news, the series will begin with the uncertainty of what happened last time after they fixed the timeline and prevented the apocalypse from happening in 1963. However, their success was cut short when they realized that everything is not what they seem.
The series will also introduce the Sparrow Academy, the complete opposite of our beloved dysfunctional family of misfit superheroes. Their rival is everything that they are not: classy, cool and aloof. They immediately have a conflict with the Umbrellas but they will realize that there is a much bigger problem that they must face.
Who will return in season 3?
It is confirmed that all of the main cast will be returning as the members of the Umbrella Academy. Among the returnees are Elliot Page as Vanya Hargreeves, David Castenada as Diego Hargreeves, Robert Sheehan as Klaus Hargreeves, Justin H. Min as Ben Hargreeves, Tom Hopper as Luther Hargreeves, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison Hargreeves, Aidan Gallagher as Number Five, and Rita Aryu as Lila Pitts.
Aside from the eight main cast, the members of the Sparrow Academy are also revealed as Netflix released a character poster for each member of the rival group. Among the cast are Justin Cornwell as Marcus Hargreeves, Jake Epstein as Alphonso Hargreeves, Cazzie David as Jayme Hargreeves, Britne Oldford as Fei Hargreeves, and Genesis Rodriguez as Sloane Hargreeves.
What are the questions that need to be addressed in season 3?
Throughout the series run, the Umbrella Academy has built an interesting and complex lore, and this means that there are a lot of questions that need answering.
One of the lingering questions that the fans have in their minds is why 43 kids were born on October 1, 1989, to mothers that were not pregnant at that time. In the original material, 13 of those members were members of both the Umbrella Academy and Sparrow Academy.
So, what really happened to the other 30 children? That might be for the next iterations of the series, meanwhile this season is jam-packed enough of mystery.
Umbrella Academy is a show about seven members of a dysfunctional family that were bestowed with unusual superpowers. This series is just one of the new additions to the ever-growing catalog of films and series in the superhero genre just like its rival, The Boys. The season 3 of the series is set to be phenomenal.
